Political focus
Culture for children has received increased state support and political awareness during the past years. In 2003, the Minister for Cultural Affairs founded a new advisory body for the area, the Network for Children and Culture, with the participation of five major cultural institutions. The organisation is intended to co-ordinate initiatives and establish projects.

Music schools & preparatory courses for conservatories - MGK
There are approximately ??? music schools in Denmark. The legislation about music schools is part of the Danish Music Act, and the schools receive a state grant towards teachers' salaries. Most of the schools are municipally run, and since 2007 all municipalities are obliged to offer music education from either a municipal or an independent music school.
MGK is a three-year supplementary course provided by the music schools. It prepares students for admission to courses of higher education at the conservatories. Young people aged 14-25 may apply for admission to the MGK. There are 17 MGK-courses in Denmark, all of them have since 2007 been financed by the state.
The Music Schools Consultant employed by the Danish Arts Agency monitors trends in the area and advises the Arts Council on the practical implementation of the provisions of the Music Act relating to music schools.
