The Danish Ministry of Culture
The ministry is responsible for a number of policy areas:
- creative arts
- music
- theatre
- film
- libraries
- archives and museums
- protection and preservation of buildings and monuments
- archeology
- higher education and training in the areas of art and culture.
Furthermore, its responsibilities include popular culture, intellectual property rights, radio and tv, sport and international cultural cooperation, which includes the EU and the Nordic Council of Ministers.

The Danish Arts Foundation
The Danish Arts Foundation provides financial support for creative artists within all artistic areas, organised in eight three-person expert committees. Within the field of music The committee for classical music and The committee for popular music provide support for commission fees, scholarships etc.
The Danish Arts Council
In 2003, Parliament approved the creation of the new organ, the Danish Arts Council (Kunstrådet), with the role of providing financial support for the production and expression of Danish arts, both nationally and internationally.
The Danish Arts Council promotes national and international cultural activities through financial support for the production and expression of:
- literature
- music
- performing arts
- visual arts
The Music Committee
Each of the four areas has a committee under the Danish Arts Council. The Music Committee provides financial support for:
- music schools
- festivals
- music venues
- musical associations
- music-related transport
- professional orchestras and ensembles
- international music exchange
Part of the support is distributed via a number of professional, genre-specific organisations, for example to financial support for the presentation of rhythmic music abroad.
The Danish Arts Agency
The Danish Arts Agency was established in 2003 through the merger of a number of institutions, including the secretariats of the professional arts councils and the Danish Arts Foundation as well as three information centres, including the Danish Music Information Centre (MIC). The Danish Arts Agency is an administrative unit under the Danish Ministry of Culture. The tasks of the agency are:
- Administration of the arts subsidy schemes under the Danish Arts Foundation and the Danish Arts Council
- Secretariat for the Danish Arts Foundation, the Danish Arts Council and their expert committees.
- The co-ordination and practical implementation of initiatives for cultural exchange between Denmark and other countries, in collaboration between the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Arts Council.
