Awards
Léonie Sonning's Music Prize is one of the greatest honorary awards within the musical area. The prize was awarded to Igor Stravinsky in 1959, but did not become an annual award until 1965, when it was presented to Leonard Bernstein. The prize is awarded to a composer or a performing musician. With the notable exceptions of Miles Davis and Keith Jarrett, all of the prize-winners up till now have been drawn from the area of classical music.

Carl Nielsen and Anne Marie Carl-Nielsen Honorary Scholarship is the largest honorary prize for Danish musicians and composers. The DKK 500,000 prize is awarded to musicians or composers in odd years and to sculptors in even years.

Each year, under massive media coverage, the Danish record industry IFPI awards prizes in many different pop and rock categories under the title of the Danish Music Awards (formerly the Danish Grammy Awards). The awards, for music in the classical, jazz, folk, world and hip hop categories, are presented at separate events, which, in most cases, are organised by the genre organisations.

The Edition Wilhelm Hansen Composer Prize is awarded on an annual basis to Danish composers.

The Jazzpar Prize, the world's largest jazz prize, was awarded to artists of international significance. The prize was presented for the first time in 1990, and thereafter every year up to and including 2004. The prize is currently suspended for financial reasons.
