The aim of Denmark's international cultural exchange is to strengthen the development of Danish arts and culture and to promote Danish arts and culture abroad. International music exchange is a part of Denmark's international cultural exchange.

The Danish Arts Council
One of the objects of the Danish Arts Council is to support Danish cultural exchange, including music exchange. The funding for international music exchange is being distributed by the Danish Arts Council's Committee for Music for collaboration projects, international tours, information and promotion of Danish music.

The Committee for Music has decentralised the administration of state subsidies for international rhythmic music tours and projects. The genre organisations for rock, jazz, folk and world music are responsible for distributing grants for international projects. Grants for international projects in classical and contemporary music are, however, distributed by the Committee for Music itself.

As of 1 January 2005, the new organisation Music Export Denmark, or MXD, has also been charged with allocating economic support for international tours and projects within rock/pop, with a grant of DKK 3 million per year from the Danish Ministry of Culture.

Collaboration between ministries
Since 2000, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Danish Ministry of Culture have been working to promote Denmark’s international cultural exchange through a collaboration agreement. The Danish Arts Agency acts as the operating staff to carry out the projects and tasks in connection with the collaboration agreement and as coordinator of Denmark’s overall cultural exchange with other countries.

International music projects in the Danish Arts Agency
The Danish Art Agency's Music Centre is the secretariat for the Danish Arts Council's Committee for Music and the two committees for music under the Danish Arts Foundation. The centre works to support, promote and raise the profile of Danish music internationally by coordinating Danish presence at international music and cultural presentations and projects abroad:

• Organisation of Danish stands at the music fairs MIDEM in Cannes and Popkomm in Berlin
• Coordinator of the music part of official Danish cultural projects abroad
• Visiting programmes for international journalists and promoters
• Responding to inquiries from abroad
• Running the international music portal www.danishmusic.info
