Studying at the music conservatories
Professional training for musicians, singers, music teachers, composers, etc., is provided by six musical academies. Upon completion of a three-year foundation Bachelor degree, students can choose to proceed to a two-year Masters programme, plus a further two years of post-graduate studies.

The Opera Academy, based at the Royal Theatre, also offers a post-graduate course in musical drama for singers who have graduated from the conservatories.
Courses are available in church music and organist training at the academies, while at the country's three church music schools you can receive special training as an organist, church singer or choir conductor, with a view to employment with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark.

Three of the academies offer music teacher and music educator training of various kinds.
The teacher training colleges train teachers for the elementary schools. In addition to the compulsory subjects, optional subjects, such as music, are also available. At the website of the Danish Ministry of Education you can find the addresses of all the teacher training colleges in Denmark.

Studying music at the universities
As a university subject, musicology is concerned with music and musical culture, including European art music, the pop music of our own times and the music of foreign cultures. Musicological studies also encompass practical musical performance, and include training in playing the piano, singing, musical direction, etc. Graduate studies (BA and MA) in musicology are available from:

Students who have not met the entrance requirements may also pursue university studies. The Open University provides opportunities for interested persons to pursue a course of study at a high level.
