The classical and contemporary music scene is organised within the subgenres: contemporary, electronic, improvisational, and early music.
Contemporary Music
Secretariat for Contemporary Music (SNYK) is the common organisation in the area of contemporary and experimental music. SNYK was established in 2000. The secretariat's task is:
- to raise the profile of contemporary Danish music internationally
- collect and co-ordinate knowledge about contemporary music in Denmark
- facilitate contacts and create initiatives
- provide advise about contemporary music projects
SNYK is the Danish section of the ISCM - the International Society for Contemporary Music. The Secretariat's operations and activities are funded by the Danish Arts Council's Committee for Music.

Danish Composers' Society represent Danish composers and has around 190 active members. Some rhythmic music composers who work with compositional music have come together in the association SCORE (no website) and the composers' association ToneArt.

Electronic Music
The Danish Institute for Electronic Music (DIEM) is Denmark's national centre for electronic music. The institute is run by the Royal Academy of Music, Aarhus. The purpose of DIEM is to improve conditions for the production, teaching, research and performance of electronic music in Denmark, within all genres.
DIEM's own research includes the Digital Dance Project, which focuses on controlling interactive music with the help of body movements. DIEM also participates in the organisation of concerts and international festivals.

A number of new platforms, associations, and recording companies have arisen in the interface between the established classical and rhythmic scenes, such as Komponent and Kontur. The national recording company Dacapo has also established an online forum open-space.dk, which houses part of the electronic milieu working with composed material.

Improvisational music
SKRÆP - experimental musicforum - is an association of composers, musicians and performers, who organizes concerts with experimental music, avantgarde, performances, multimedia and improvised music.

Intuitive Music Homepage is an internationally-oriented website, which provides information on activities in the field of omprovisational and intuitive music, as well as i.e. graphically-scored music.

Early Music
MUSA and Centre for Historical Music CHM are the two Danish associations for early music. Since 2003 the two associations have published the Danish-language periodical Custos.
