Opera
The Royal Theatre is the common national theatre for opera, ballet, and drama. Opera is presented at two stages: The Old Stage and The Opera.

The Opera
The Danish National Opera (Den Jyske Opera) is based in the Concert Hall, Aarhus, and is the country's second largest opera company. The Danish National Opera frequently tours the country with some of its productions.

PLEX, Copenhagen Music Theatre (previously Den Anden Opera) was re-opened in 2006. PLEX is a stage for chamber opera, music drama, and experimental concerts. PLEX receives support from the Danish Art's Council.

Performance
The production company Holland House has attracted international media attention for its performances of musical drama, which have included the use of computer technology. Hotel Pro Forma has also produced a number of original performances in the interface between opera, dance and musical drama.

Ballet
Performances of classical ballet take place at the Royal Theatre. Furthermore, the Peter Schaufuss Ballet , based in Holstebro, has established itself with major productions which tour the country. Danish Dance Theatre puts on dynamic and innovative modern dance productions with strong roots in the aesthetics of ballet, and many new dance performances with new live music take place at Dansescenen in Copenhagen.
