March 6, 2007

Emil de Waal, together with Swedish multi-musician Gustaf Ljunggren and piano player Søren Kjærgaard, has created an innovative approach to electronic jazz with the band Emil de Waal +. In their music all the facets are let loose, creating a floating style suspended in the unexplored sphere between free jazz and the constant electronic beat.

They released their second album in October 2006 and have since been touring Denmark and other countries in Europe.

In March 2007 Emil de Waal+ visit China on a two band tour together with the Copenhagen based jazz-rock quartet Bandapart.

The orchestra Bandapart was born out of the urge to form a sound in the borderlands between jazz and improvised music; rock; and modern classical music, and with their debut album from 2005, they took off with a sound of scenic dimensions, dusty and dreamy spaces reminiscent of both Duke Ellington and Sonic Youth. The band consist of the two melody makers, guitarist Jakob Bro and keyboardist Soren Kjaergaard, with Jonas Westergaard on bass and Jeppe Gram on drums.

The two bands play in China on the following dates:

4 March   JZ Club, Shanghai

6 March  Waterland Kwanyin, Beijing

8 March  MAO Live House, Beijing
