Going through the program of the 28th Edition of Copenhagen Jazz Festival there are several events which are particularly striking. First of all, three concerts in three different settings with three of the most important guitarists of modern jazz: John Scofield, Pat Metheny, and Bill Frisell. The opening night of the festival will feature one whose music appeals to both jazz aficionados and music lovers in general: namely Herbie Hancock.
At the Opera one can experience Dianne Reeves, Michel Camilo, Gotan Projects and the golden voice of world music: Selif Keita. The music of Africa is also represented elsewhere in the festival, namely by the afro-beat legend Tony Allen and the vocalist and bassist Richard Bona.
The varity of the Danish jazz scene is of course also well documented during the ten days of July. Names like Anderskov accident, Maria Laurette Friis, Jakob Bro, Christoffer Møller, Marilyn Mazur, Palle Mikkelborg, Lotte Anker, Carsten Dahl, Cæcilie Nordby, DR Big Band, Alex Riel, and many others will demonstrate the very high quality of jazz around Denmark. Violinist Svend Asmussen, who turned ninety earlier this year, will perform an exclusive concert at Glassalen, Tivoli.
Last but not least Europe is represented by the French accordion virtuoso Richard Galliano, the Spanish Flamenco guitarist Tomatito, Five Corners Quintet from Finland, Norwegian Super Silent, British, and Jamie Cullum.
