Danish contemporary music is not on vacation in July. A number of significant pieces will be performed at international festivals this month.
Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen's challenging piano concerto “Steinfeld” will be performed in Stutgart 23 July. Rolf Hind is soloist with the Stuttgart Radio Orchestra. The performance is a part of the 2006 World Music Days.
Erik Højsgaard will have his international breakthrough as an opera-composer when his opera “Don Juan Returns from the War” is premiered in Vienna this month. The premiere is 24 July as a part of the Klangbogen Wien Festival, and the chamber opera will be performed four times in July and August. The performances are also in connection with the 2006-celebration of Mozart.
Hans Abrahamsen’s “Piano Concerto” from 2000, which has already become a classic, will be performed at Tanglewood, Massachusetts in USA 30 July. The performance is a part of a Contemporary Music Festival, which also includes Poul Ruder’s Guitar Concerto “Psalmodies” in the program. The two pieces will be performed by Tanglewood Music Center Fellows. David Starobin is soloist and Stefan Asbury conductor.
