Thomas Koppel’s classical album “Los Angeles Concerto” was the great winner and received two prizes at the P2 award DMA Classical at a gala concert in the Danish Radio Concert Hall 23 September 2006.
Thomas Koppel’s “Los Angeles Street Concerto” was written for recorder virtuoso Michala Petri. She is accompanied by lute player Lars Hannibal, Copenhagen Symphony Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, and Bo Holten is conducting. Thomas Koppel’s CD was awarded “The Classical CD of the year”, and “Classical Orchestral CD of the Year”.
The P2 award DMA Classical was given out for the third time. The prize is awarded in cooperation with Danish Broadcasting Cooperation and the Danish department of The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). The winners were chosen by the listeners of the Danish Broadcasting Cooperation. Seven prizes were given out:
Vocal CD of the year: “Mozart – Idomeneo”: Danish Radio Sinfoniettta conducted by Adam Fischer.
Solo CD of the year: “Holmboe, Ruders, Nørgård etc.”: Morthen Zeuthen cello.
Chamber music CD of the year: “Mozart, Brahms - Piano Quartets”: Ensemble Midtvest.
Classical CD of the year, and Classical Orchestral CD of the Year: Thomas Koppel - “Los Angeles Street Concerto”: Michala Petri, Lars Hannibal, Copenhagen Symphony Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, conducted by Bo Holten.
The Danish Radio programme for contemporary music gave a prize to the CD “Night Pace” with music composed by Jexper Holmen and played by ensemble Moose Matrix.
The IFPI honorary prize - given to a person who through his carrier has done something special for the classical music life – went to the 74-year-old cellist Erling Bløndal Bengtsson.
