This November one of the main venues for folk and roots music in Denmark – Det Bruunske Pakhus in the city of Fredericia – will feature a new initiative aimed at bringing Danish folk music live to the world – via the World Wide Web.
Four nights of live folk and roots music with some of Denmarks best bands and musicians will be broadcast live for streaming on the Internet and will later be made available for downloading and podcasting on the world wide web.
The initiative – called Folkstreaming – is the first of its kind exclusively featuring Danish folk and roots music. It is the result of a collaboration between Det Bruunske Pakhus, Folkstage Booking & Management and the record label GO´ Danish Folk Music – and with generous financial support from The Danish Arts Council.
The Folkstreaming initiative will present eleven Danish folk bands and soloists - as well as a representative from the Faroe Islands. All twelve names have based their music on traditional Danish music, adding their own touches to the music by experimenting with old and new, and giving it a distinct and modern sound.
Furthermore the group of twelve are all well established on the Danish as well as the international folk and rootsmusic scene. Several of the artists are recipients of Danish Music Awards for their music, and/or have been chosen as representatives of Danish folk and roots music in the music export initiative danish roots – growing in the world.
Needless to say, all twelve have much to offer their listeners both inside and outside the Danish borders. And the main objective of this ambitious project is to find new and different ways to present the Danish folk and roots music live to the world.
