Danish music exports were well over the DKK 1billion mark in 2005 with exports worth DKK 1.081.091.134, indicate the latest figures from Music Export Denmark (MXD). In 2003, Denmark exported music worth DKK 930 million, while in 2004 it was DKK 1.2 million.
There has never been as much focus on Danish music abroad as these years, where Danish bands get attention, especially on important markets like North America and the European continent. The export figures for 2005 point in the same positive direction. The slight decline from 2004 to 2005 is due to a decline in licensing of Danish music abroad.
The statistics are prepared in such a way as to make it as easy as possible to compare the results with corresponding figures from Finland, Norway and Sweden.
The information is collected from Statistics Denmark and the copyright and performing rights organisations KODA, NCB and Gramex. A questionnaire survey has also been undertaken among Danish record companies regarding their exports and their licensing revenues from abroad.
