Henriette Sennenvaldt (vocal), Katrine Stochholm (vocal, piano, various instruments), Thorbjørn Krogshede (piano), Morten Larsen (drums), Anders Stochholm (percussion), Nils Grøndahl (violin, various instruments), Myrtha Wolf (cello), Sara Saxild (bass).
Fronted by lost little bird Henriette Sennenvaldt, the Aarhusian octet Under Byen has already established itself as one of the most important Danish bands around, after just two albums. The group's blend of gloomy weltschmerz, lazy sexuality and an ironic glint in the eye also impressed Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke, who called the group's second album one of the most important releases of 2002.
Under Byen was formed in Aarhus, with the two songwriters Katrine Stochholm and Henriette Sennenvaldt as its most prominent members. In 1997 they released the single 'Puma' which presented for the first time the group's atmospheric and dusty universe, reminiscent of such artists as Bjørk, Kate Bush and Talk Talk.
After a live concert on Danish Radio P3 in Aarhus in 1999, Under Byen were offered a contract by the newly-started Have A Cigar recording company. The group accepted, and in 1999 they released the sparkling, harbour-romantic album 'Kyst', which with its attractive numbers set new standards for the dreaming and poetic side of Danish rock music.
With their second album, 'Det Er Mig Der Holder Træerne Sammen' ("It's Me Who Keeps The Trees Together"), the band gradually began to become the darlings of the Danish press. Several magazines and newspapers declared the album the best release of the year, resulting in several nominations for the Steppeulv Prize - which the group did not however win.
Lately, the group has also begun to attract attention outside Denmark - and among other influential personalities besides David Fricke.
When Under Byen recently played at the Dutch Eurosonic festival, the legendary English DJ John Peel chose to broadcast the concert live on BBC Radio One. And the musical director of one of the most important festivals in the world - England’s Glastonbury Festival - declared that Under Byen's set had been one of the absolute best at the festival.
The group also performed on the solo album by Giant Sand member Howe Gelb, 'The Listener', as well as on the Giant Sand album 'Is All Over The Map'
In march 2006 Under Byen released their third album 'Samme Stof Som Stof'.
