Anders Trentemøller.
Anders Trentemøller is one of the world’s most sought-after producers and remixers. In recent years, his name has turned up in innumerable different contexts; he has for example remixed and produced for such major international names as The Knife, the Pet Shop Boys and Röyksopp.
Trentemøller also creates his own music, and had earlier released a number of 12-inch singles which put him on the international map in electronica. He is signed to the German label PokerFlat Recordings, who in October 2006 released Trentemøller's first full-length album, The Last Resort, which was accompanied by an unusual amount of hype before release. However, the album was acclaimed by the respected US site Pitchfork Media and did not disappoint the critics, and Trentemøller took the step from being a big name on the international electronica scene to becoming able to step into the big market.
Trentemøller originally began as a rock musician, but later acquired a taste for electronic music. He bought a sampler, and in 1997 he had his debut on the electronic scene with the first Danish live-house project, Trigbag, which he formed together with DJ T.O.M.
As Trigbag, the duo toured Denmark, performing for example at Roskilde Festival in 1999, as well as abroad. Once in a while Trigbag also managed to produce remixes which were regularly played around the clubs by international DJs such as Alex Gopher, Laurent Garnier and Etienne de Crecy. Trigbag split in 2000, and Trentemøller took a couple of years' break from the house scene. Back in action in the summer of 2002, he was ready with more from the bag of deep funky tech-house, with elements of both electronic dub and electro.
On The Last Resort, Trentemøller has however moved away from the dance rhythms into a more subdued and thoughtful soundscape, and has abandoned dubs in favour of ambient expression, which requires much more patience from the listener.
