This year, the Danish Arts Foundation's Rhythmic Music Committee is once again presenting awards to a number of artists who have excelled with CD music releases in the course of the year.
The Rhythmic Music Committee will present prizes of DKK 30,000 to each of the following three works/albums:
- Oh Land, Nanna Øland Fabricius: Fauna (Fake Diamond Records, 2009)
- Band Ane, Ane Østergaard: Too & Free (Jenka 2009)
- Kenneth Knudsen: End of Silence (Calibrated 2009)
The Rhythmic Music Committee, which consists of Juliana Hodkinson (chair), Marilyn Mazur and Tobias Trier, made the following remarks to the awards:
Oh Land: 'FAUNA'
Under the title OH LAND, Nanna Øland Fabricius has created an exciting album that promises well for her future as a composer. By working hard and uncompromisingly with the computer, she has developed a strong personal style which commands admiration. Her music is characterised by magnificent, beautiful vocals and a strong use of choral voices, in a rousing electronic cocktail.
Band Ane: 'ANISH MUSIC TOO & FREE'
Band Ane is a true original. Her music is characterised by curiosity and by a playfulness that leads the listener down many different paths. The music combines the tightness and perfection of electronica with a luxuriance of whimsical sound experiments that infect the listener and whet the appetite to go on voyages of discovery. Ane Østergaard has succeeded in maintaining a playful approach to the music, while at the same time clearly keeping tight control of the tools. The music points the way forward, because she has worked on developing its actual sound. Her entire, highly alternative, way of presenting the music can serve as inspiration for other composers, and forms a good counterbalance to commercial music.
Kenneth Knudsen: 'END OF SILENCE' (Calibrated Music)
The music in Kenneth Knudsen's 'End of Silence' could be described as an electronic and rhythmic sea of sound, with many fascinating layers for the listener to bathe in. With this well-rounded work, the composer reveals himself to be a true master of sound and form. We sense and are reflected in his musical immersion. There are waves of texture here with sharp edges and surprises, but the music also contains harmonious tranquillity and beauty in its own special, dark way.
