Direct Contact to Danish Folk Music
The Danish Folk Council promotes Danish folk/roots music abroad and handles co-operation between the Danish and the international folk scene. These networking activities are financed by the Danish Arts Council's Committee for Music. The Council organises and participates in Danish folk presentations abroad and international visits to Denmark by folk promoters, journalists and musicians. Every year the Council produces a promotion CD "Folk&Roots from Denmark" which is distributed worldwide to media, festivals, etc.

In 2006 the music export initiative 'Danish Roots' was launched by a group of organisations from the Danish music industry, including the Danish Folk Council. From 1 July 2008 until June 2009 the following bands will help increasing the knowledge of Danish folk and roots abroad:

International Meeting-places
The Danish folk/roots scene presents itself at the most important international folk music festivals and fairs, such as Womex (WOrld Music Expo), one of the world's largest trade fairs for world music and folk/roots music. Womex takes place every year, and is attended by musicians, music industry representatives and organisations working with world and folk music.

The conference and trade fair the North Americal Folk Music and Dance Alliance is held in February each year at varying venues in North America, and attracts folk musicians and folk music industry people from all over the world.

Denmark abroad
Danish embassies, consulate-generals and cultural institutes abroad have in many cases active cultural departments which can supply information and advice on international exchanges, also within the area of music.
These missions possess local knowledge of the cultural life in their areas, as well as contacts with cultural and musical life in Denmark. You can locate potential contacts in your country by using the search engine to the right.
